Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to use iWatchLife?

In order to start using iWatchLife, you need to have:

1. An IP security camera, wireless security camera or a webcam.

2.  An Internet connection (and wireless router or router if you're using an IP security camera or wireless security camera)

3. An iWatchLife account.

What is the difference between motion detection and the event detection that iWatchLife has?

What are false alerts?

How will I be alerted when iWatchLife detects an event?

Currently, when an event is detected, the camera will take a snap shot and send you an alert via email. The email will include the snap shot, and a description of the event. In the near future, you will be able to receive an email alert containing a short recording of the event rather than a snap shot. iWatchLife is also working towards providing you with text (sms, mms) alerts.

You can log into your online control panel and view video of recorded events provide you have this setting enabled and  you have enough video storage in your account.

How does iWatchLife differentiate between events that matter to me with events that I do not want to be alerted with?

iWatchLife constantly learns what elements of a scene or camera view is part of the normal background activity. Once iWatchLife learns, any motion made by normal background activities will not generate an alert. This means you are not alerted for clouds moving or trees swaying. You are, however, alerted with things that matter such as when an intruder walks into your driveway as the intruder is not part of the normal background.

Is iWatchLife good for my business or my office?

It depends on how many cameras you need.  iWatchLife can support a maximum of 4 IP security cameras or wireless security cameras.

Intrusion zones are user defined regions around an object or a specified location that the camera is told to monitor for intrusion. It is created by drawing a box or shape around the area you want watched ie: doorway. When an activity within these zones, an alert will be generated. For example, a restricted zone created around the backyard. If child or intruder steps in or out of the zone, an alert is sent.

Privacy zone is a feature that allows you to block the view of a portion of the camera scene. The designated area will be pixalated. This feature allows you to control areas that should not be viewable or monitored ie: bedroom door.

What does "See What Matters Mean"?

Most people use video security cameras to stream video by linking to the PC. This is great if you want to see but not to watch for something. The solution? iWatchLife: software with motion analytics that looks out for things that you care about and alerts you with things that matter. You are, therefore, not sent alerts detailing the movement of the trees. You are, however, sent an alert when a car makes a stop on your driveway.
